Meal Donations (drop off)

Meal donations are a constant critical need for The Oaks. Imagine the time and labor our direct care staff could devote to building much needed relationships with residents when there is no need for grocery shopping and prepping for evening meals. As a one time or recurring meal donor, you provide the relief needed to ensure that our staff spends their time where it is needed most – face to face with the residents of Palmetto Place.

  • Meals must include one protein (no seafood/shellfish please!), a vegetable/fruit, and starch. We accept meals freshly cooked, or frozen and ready to heat. No time to prep? Catered meals are welcomed as well!

  • Breakfast and dinners are accepted daily, Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are accepted on Sat & Sunday & throughout the school district off days.

exposure donors

“What did you do this weekend?! Do anything fun during the break?” These are questions that circulate through high school hallways and classrooms each Monday. As an underserved youth, it is possible to hear stories of beach trips & embarrassing low bowling scores without ever experiencing it themselves. Exposure donors make it possible for youth enrolled in Palmetto Place Programming to join in on these conversations & relate to their peers. In the past, these sponsors have allowed our youth to dine at the Top of Carolina for brunch, enjoy Lake Murray, explore Folly Beach & more!

Volunteer Opportunities

Do you want to get hands on? Here are some great volunteer opportunities! For more information, see our Volunteer page.

Volunteer Application Required!

Meal donation with resident engagement

If you are interested in engaging with residents over the meal you’ve provided, a volunteer application is necessary. Once the application has been submitted and cleared, you’re welcome to stick around after bringing your meal to gain insight on how our youth live, eat, and prosper just as their peers do.

life skills facilitation

Although case managers offer intensive life skills classes once weekly, supplementary assistance is welcomed & highly encouraged. As a life skills volunteer, you will lead one-on-one or small group sessions using the curriculum provided and real life experiences. You will be set up in our life skills room right at the front of the house, easily accessible to a staff member.

tutoring

Many of our residents are in the midst of their Junior or Senior year of high school, or completing an Adult Education class to obtain their GED. Tutors are necessary to provide the one-on-one attention they may not receive in school. Tutors are needed in all subjects, with our most common need being math courses.
